Six Pillars Eagle Man Ride

Andrea and I rode in the Six Pillars Character Counts Eagleman 56 Mile bike ride over the weekend, in Cambridge MD. Amazingly, the weather held out for us and we remained dry for the entire ride. In fact, those few hours that we were on the bikes, may have been the only dry hours of the whole weekend.

It was a great ride, with beautiful scenery and near perfect temperatures. Teh event was extremely well run, and the only disappointment was the lack of participants. The size of the race paled in comparison to the Seagull Century, with only about 150-200 riders. Still, I recommend it to anyone as a good start to the cycling season or as a first event for new cyclists. The course was nice and flat, with little to no hills. The only challenging parts came from the long roads close to the water, where the wind posed an issue and made things slightly tougher.

Andrea and I certainly didn't set any land speed records while we were out there, but we had a great time.

I managed to snap a bunch of shots while we were riding. I'll just post a couple of of them here for you to view, but you can check out the rest at the link below.

Why We Race

It's the Thursday before the biggest spring race, and I am really excited. It has been a great spring, with some solid efforts and good races under our belts. We feel prepared and ready to set some personal bests at White Lake. The Wilts are making their way to NC today, and tomorrow we will head down east for the weekends events.

Rumor has it the third member of P11 is tackling an event this weekend. That's right P11's self proclaimed 'tech geek' is cranking the pedals in the character counts mid-shore metric this weekend. Here's hoping for some adversity and cold ones at the finish line, rock their faces off man!

I wanted to take a second to remind folks why we are participating in Project 11.

Project 11 is dedicated to raising funds and increasing awareness for the fight against cancer. The effort honors my father Thomas John Smith, a long time cyclist and endurance athlete. Dad battled Metastatic Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer for 11 years and inspired many first time riders, and more experienced riders to pedal a little harder. Please take a moment to read the Our Story section of the web page to learn more about Dad's fight.

Thank you,

-E

Cary Long Course

The Cary Race is coming up soon. When I was riding today it dawned on me that we did not pick a nice easy short event to get the Project off the ground. 10miles of running, 31 miles on the road. It won't be stellar, but a great day of training nonetheless. I am going to go out this weekend and ride the course to see where we can push etc...I am sure Bobby is going to want a full recon written up for the website after its done, stay tuned.

Carry on,

-E
