The March To White Lake

Now that spring tune ups are over it's on to White Lake, the biggest spring race around. It's a half Ironman (1.2/56/13.1). Hopefully it will go well. I am feeling stronger than I have in the past three years heading into this race, and I am sure Bobby will once again set a personal best at the distance. Lately his course records have been falling. Yesterday we heard a 6 hour flat announcement from Camp Wilt. For me I am hoping to come in around 5:15. I think it's realistic, but we will see how the next two weeks go.

Agony at the Finish Line

This is a great article and slide show about the agony that is the finish line in triathlon. I am hoping that the next race ends with my arms extended overhead, and not doubled over hands on my knees.

Beaverdam Olympic

It was a great day of racing for the boys of P11. It was a fun course, great weather, and absolutely freezing cold water!

It was a bit longer than a standard olympic distance tri, but a good day of training nonetheless.

Bobby's highlight: not drowning and his second PR of the season
Eric's highlight a 6:30 final mile on the run. Not bad for the end of the race.

Ironman

Watching the DVD of 2004 Kona for a little motivation. Tomorrow it's awake at 0430 on the road at 6, in the water around 7:45...

If all goes according to plan I'll be done around 3 hours, and Bobby around 3.5.

Temps

How can Finish Strong be saying the water temp is 62 degrees when Jordan is in the 40's and that was taken by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Water

Just got word we are under a frost advisory for the night. So much for the lake getting any warmer...

Cold is merely a state of mind. Click Here for Full Post

Race Preperations are under way

Race preparations are in full swing. I swam today while Bobby took a more mellow approach; iced his knees, tested new goggles, and found some inspiration in triathlete magazine.

Latest water temps are still bone chilling cold, but getting a bit warmer. Might break 60 degrees by 0800 on Saturday.

Thank You!

Saturday was the first race for Project 11, and I wanted to say thank you to Julie, Jo, Ross, and Brooke for coming out early on a cold March morning to cheer us on. Thank you!

The race went really well, and training has already begun for April's Oly. Have been in the pool a bit more, and did a good tempo ride on the bike tonight.

Bobby is running a half marathon this weekend, and is saving his wheels for that effort.

Y'all have a good evening and thanks for donating! Click Here for Full Post

Race Weekend Nears

Evening folks,

Its Thursday night, March Madness is in full swing, and we are gearing up for the first race of the season. Bobby is back from Wenatchee, or will be in an hour. He is taking care of some business in the morning and then heading over here as soon as he can.

Tomorrow is going to be about checking the gear, making sure we are eating, and hydrating. I'll be at the office until noon, but then heading home to make sure my race bike is in proper shape. Once Bobby arrives we will probably take a shake down cruise on the bike, and then head to packet pickup. Eat a great dinner and try to get some sleep. Even though the race is not until 9am, its going to be an early morning.

We'll post a bit about race plans and post some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks for reading and please remember to donate.

Cary Long Course

Evening folks,

We are a few days out from the first race of the season, and I am a little nervous. The first race of the year is an unknown. I have nothing to base my performance on. I have not strung together a big brick yet, and if nothing else the CLCD is a big brick. It's not a question of finishing, barring injury that should not be a problem. The big issue is just how will the day go. The first run should be nice and smooth. I am not going to push too hard on it, and just kind of cruise through it. The bike course is pretty sweet. I have ridden alot of the roads before and know it quite well. I am really looking forward to the strech on Big Woods road, its one of my favorite training roads in the area. Most of the climbing is going to ocurr at the end of the ride, so I will need to conserve enough to really pick it up over the final stretch. The final run is going to be the issue. It's the big unknown. At any triathlon you just never know how you are going to respond on the final piece.

On the brighter side the weather is suppossed to be much better than last weekend. Sunny with temps in the approaching 55. Going to need to remeber the arm warmers on the bike...More to come later.

BTW - ran a foundation 4 today just cruising around PBO 7 min/miles

Cary Long Course

The Cary Race is coming up soon. When I was riding today it dawned on me that we did not pick a nice easy short event to get the Project off the ground. 10miles of running, 31 miles on the road. It won't be stellar, but a great day of training nonetheless. I am going to go out this weekend and ride the course to see where we can push etc...I am sure Bobby is going to want a full recon written up for the website after its done, stay tuned.

Carry on,

-E
